When, for example, you study math, you at first study basic arithmetic at elementary school. Then you study some more advanced calculations at junior high school, which combine some of the arithmetic you learned at elementary school. In the same way you study advanced math at high school, but if you do not understand what you learned at junior high, you cannot get the hang of the advanced calculations and you cannot memorize them because you cannot picture them. So, you need to study things step by step in the right order and it is better not to try to understand everything from the outset.
It is extremely hard, maybe even impossible, to master any subject completely in just a few years. If you cannot understand certain concepts it is better just to pretend to understand it. When you take a written exam, you have only to choose or write the correct answer according to the formulae you have been given; it is not necessary to understand the content or the meaning perfectly. You will master the subject little by little if you continue to persevere. After studying advanced concepts, you will be able to analyze the basic formulae in more depth and you can enjoy learning the subject as you have a better understanding of the meaning behind it.
